FOODGUIDE IBIZA

Ibiza (catalan = Eivissa)

Ibiza, almost like Mallorca, is firmly anchored in German tourism.  Around 15% of the two million visitors a year are travelers with a German passport.  The most famous is probably the celebration culture. Because names like Pacha, Amnesia, DC-10 or Space are known all over the world. Now that I've been here on the island for the fifth time, I'd like to share my tips with you. The Spanish island has not only an impressive history as one of the oldest cities in the world, but also a lot to offer gastronomically.

HEALTHY CAFÉS

Keto Kitchen - healthy veggie keto food in Santa Gertrudis
Mushroom Latte, Matcha Latte, Bowls, Smoothies and more. The absolutely "instagramable" café is located in Santa Gertrudis and is worth a visit for healthy foodies. The food concept behind the cafe: ketogenic nutrition, a kind of low carb cuisine that is also sugar-free. Our tip: Order a small meal or a smoothie during the day and enjoy it on the swings at the bar.

Passion Café - 5x in Ibiza
The Passion Café is probably the most famous "healthy food" café in Ibiza. Meanwhile there are five shops all over the island. The menu is very well thought out and you can sink into superfoods and delicious dishes. The dishes are also available here to go (for the particularly party-happy guests who like to jump back into the hotel bed quickly ;)).

wild beets - raw kitchen in Santa Gertrudis
The wild beets also offers juices, smoothies and healthy dishes from the raw food kitchen. Here you will also find gluten-free dishes. Not quite as stylish as the Keto Kitchen, the interior could have been taken over by the previous owner. So here we decide for a small snack and a juice. By the way, Santa Gertrudis is the yoga spot of the island. Here you can visit yoga classes en masse.

LUNCH SPOTS

El bigotes - Bullit - traditional from the fisherman and in the bay Mastella
In El Bigotes (Spanish for "the mustache") it is still really traditional. El Bigotes" Juan Ferrer used to fish fish early in the morning and bring it to his wife, who prepared a fish stew for the guests. Meanwhile the son is fishing and "el Bigotes" sits at the first table of the restaurant and drinks from his wine decanter. The beautiful bay is an absolute idyll and you almost fall into a melancholic mood when your mom serves her fish stew to all her guests. First of all there are aioli, some bread and olives. The large stew stands on a fireplace and there is no separation to the guests. As a second course, there is rice soup, who sees the Spanish mummy cooking, that it is an extremely ingenious way of the remainder utilization, because after the fish stew a lot of fish stock remains. This is refined with saffron, hence the yellow juicy colour. She puts 2 big bags of rice into the huge cast iron pot and lets it simmer. As a dessert is served Ibizan cake and Cafe Caleta (a coffee boiled up with rum, brandy and sugar). Unusually, the coffee is incredibly sweet and the cake contains a lot of rosemary. Nothing for me. But I can absolutely recommend this bay and the fish stew to you. In the season you have to reserve a week in advance, because this restaurant is no longer a secret tip.
El chiringuito - the classic on the beach es-cavallet, Salinas
A true classic and known to almost everyone: The Chiringuito. Good to know: There is childcare in the back of the restaurant, where there is also a juice bar. Located directly on the beach, it is probably one of the most famous restaurants on the island. And if you are already here, you can go directly to Sa Trinxa, a beautiful beach with hip vibes.

Es torrent - the best fish on the island, Sant Josep de sa Talaia
The beautiful beach restaurant offers freshly caught fish, served with vegetables and potato chips (homemade). The fish is served in a large pan. The waiter fillets it carefully at the table. And if you still feel like a few hours on the beach after this delicious lunch, you can take a lounger and listen to the sound of the sea.
fish shack - the snack bar on the sea rock, Cap Martinet
"Catch of the day, potato, salad and drinks. If you want more food or even a menu, this is not the place for you. The container with a few tables and chairs at the edge of a cliff could have sprung from a Berlin head. We think this construction is really cool and are happy about the fresh fish, the sea breeze and the view.
La Granja - Lunch at the farm hotel in the middle of the island, San Mateo
In the middle of the island, somewhat hidden is the farm hotel "La Granja" (Spanish = "the farm"). Beautifully designed, this hotel is an absolute "barefoot luxury" object. All ingredients used in the food come from this "farm", because there are not only vegetables, fruits and herbs, but also chickens. Who doesn't live here as a hotel guest and wants to eat lunch has to register one day in advance, because the hotel trades under the name "Farmers club". The biodynamic Farmers Lunch for two persons costs here beaten 150-200, - €. In spite of the high price, it is a great experience, as one can of course also stroll through the farm.

Cas Pages - Meat on the fire, Santa Eulària des Riu
Some meat lovers will enjoy their meat here, because the Cas pages is known for its meat quality and variety. The grill plate for one person is enough for at least 2-3 people and if you are lucky you will get fresh suckling pig. The meat is grilled over the fire. This area is open, so everyone can watch his piece being grilled. The rustic restaurant is cosy and just as wonderful for large groups.

DINNER RESTAURANTS

la Oliva - directly in the old town
Once in Ibiza it is almost obligatory to visit the old town, because it is one of the oldest cities in the world and therefore carries an incredible amount of history. While informing oneself about this history one can go directly to one of the small restaurants. The "la Oliva" offers fine food, beautiful sideboards and old town ambience.
el pulpo - easy dinner at the beach of Talamanca
Easy, easy and good. Fish is grilled here during the day and meat in the evening. Vegetables and grilled potatoes are served as side dishes. By the way, the beach of Talamanca is also great for families.
casa piedra - the hidden gourmet restaurant
Almost an insider tip, as at first sight, the small restaurant looks like a small café bar at the roadside. But if one passes the kitchen through the narrow corridor, one gets into a very fine little garden that is built in the middle of the lemon grove. The dishes are sophisticated and thought through. The sideboard is ingenious and the service staff very friendly.
los pasajeros - the hip restaurant on the first floor, Marina Botafoch
We almost passed by, because the narrow ascent to Los Pasajeros can be overlooked. On the small stairs you can already hear Ibiza sound and at the top there are some wooden benches, many posters of parties all over the island hang on the walls and stickers decorate the still free places. A small balcony with a table and a red painted bench smiles directly at us. From here we can see directly into the harbour and watch the hustle and bustle on the street. One could spend the whole evening here. The food and drinks are cheap. Especially tasty are the Gambas al ajillo!

Bon Lloc - simple traditional Spanish home cooking
The traditional Spanish restaurant with a large bar and TV (of course, football is almost always played) offers Spanish home cooking: paella, chicken breast, grilled vegetables and appetizers from the bar. What do we find here absolutely ingenious? The Aioli.

Amante - Dinnerdate directly at the sea, Cala Llonga
The Amante is also one of Ibiza's classics. The impressive design of the restaurant entices a "wow!" out of every visitor. Because the restaurant is built relatively steeply to the bay and is therefore very close to the sea. The romantic view and the beautifully arranged dishes are perfect for a dinner for two. Since the abyss is partly very steep and there is no barrier we did not go there with our family holidays with child.

GROCERY STORES

Since we often fly to Ibiza with our family and rent a house, we usually have to do a big shopping spree at the beginning of the week. Even when we were the catering partner for the "Carmushka Summerhouse" on the island, we looked at some markets and products. Here we have a list of our favourite shopping possibilities with advantages of the respective stores:
  1. Mercadona : large assortment at reasonable prices, good fresh fish & sausage counter
  2. Eroski: good assortment with favourable prices, good fresh fish counter
  3. Spar: small supermarkets, spread all over the island, suitable for smaller errands
  4. Biorganic Ibiza: small organic supermarket with snacks and delicious acai bowls
  5. Butcher: Carniceria Los Gallegos (super meat and homemade sausage at a fair price)
