HEALTH BENEFITS
The banana is full of minerals such as magnesium and potassium (great for muscle and nerve function, energy production and electrolyte balance). They are also a super athlete snack, as the consumption of these substances is particularly high during physical exertion. The trace elements phosphorus, calcium, iron and zinc are also found in bananas. 100 grams of banana already cover 12 percent of the daily requirement of vitamin C. Bananas also contain vitamin A, vitamin K and various vitamins of the B group - especially vitamin B6. SUSTAINABILITY: In Germany, the banana comes directly after the apple in terms of consumption, i.e. each German consumes an average of 100 individual bananas per year. This makes Germany particularly important as a customer in the manufacturing countries (China and India are at the top of the list here). Since the supply chain of the banana is very non-transparent it is difficult to control social conditions and the cultivation. Smallholders usually cannot keep up with the big plantation farmers. The cultivation is mostly monoculture and requires a large consumption of pesticides, which are distributed by air.
