URBAN GARDENING with three "urban farmer" recipes

Urban Gardening is already well known to many people. Urban areas are used to create a usable green space. Above all the conscious consumption, the new love for regionality and also the longed-for closeness to nature are supporting fields of urban horticulture.

Projects like the "High line" in New York or the Prinzessinengarten in Berlin immediately come to mind. However, we only have to look around our neighborhood to observe this trend, which, by the way, has been around for a long time. We have informed ourselves about Munich projects and have come across Munich's "greencity". The city of Munich awards "bed sponsorships" (a two square metre green area) for one season. The beds are located in the grounds of the Bischweiler Municipal Tree Nursery in Sachsenstraße and can be applied for under "Essbare Stadt". Any Munich resident who does not have a garden can gather some experience here, exchange ideas with other gardeners and enjoy his harvest.
Railway keeper Thiel also surprises with his "Bahngarten". This garden is primarily not intended for edible plants, but as a green oasis and place for bees. The planned community beds will be planted by both the employees and volunteers of the railway garden. Here, too, you can sponsor a bed over the course of a season.

Even we have an office in the city centre and no way to do urban horticulture to the extent we want. So we looked for a project near us and found the WERKsgarten. This garden of 20 raised beds is located right at the entrance of the factory quarter and is an initiative of the Otto Eckart Foundation and the Bürgerstiftung München with the kind support of the City of Munich, Department of Environment and Health. The supervisor has let us know that senior citizens in particular have a real added value in this project, because they not only have a physical occupation, but also a crop yield that rewards them and a responsibility that they bear.
So we looked around the WERKsgarten and even harvested some food.

Because we were asked by Kptn Cook whether we would like to create a few recipes in the sense of urban horticulture. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the dear Kpntn Cook team and Wüsthof for this wonderful contribution, which we are now happy to share with you.
By the way, with a harvest knife this experience is really fun and so we created some recipes with our freshly harvested delicacies in our "Office Garden".

Because it is not only on balconies that we have the problem that there is usually a large harvest phase and then long fallow land again. We will now show you three ways to use and preserve herbs and tomatoes so that you can fully enjoy your full harvest.
