Most people only know Dubrovnik from "Game of Thrones" and meanwhile the city or island lives from exactly this tourism. To be honest, I have to admit that I really wouldn't have thought of flying to Dubrovnik, although I love Croatia as a tourist destination. The Croatian coast is simply awesome, with stone beaches, but clear water that is perfect for snorkeling and a heavenly delicious seafood, good oils, wines and a relaxed atmosphere. We had our hotel just outside the old town, but it was easy to reach by bus. To the old town itself: Expensive but beautiful! Make the tour on the city wall, because the view is indescribable. The "Blutenburg" is, for a preliminary warning, really unspectacular and rather boring than a must-go. But the island Lokrum is more than worth a half day excursion. On it there is a breathtaking botanical garden. Concerning the food, we asked our taxi driver from the airport to the hotel a little and got a lot of good tips.
But let's get to our hotel first. We were in the "Hotel More" including breakfast buffet. The service staff was more than happy and you really felt comfortable. They were even so kind as to keep my substitute products without institutions and bring them to my table every morning as soon as they saw me. There were also Poched Eggs on order - is there anything even better?
Of course, the hotel also had a very nice restaurant which we went to twice because we were so enthusiastic. But also quite pricy. We already spent 200 Euro per evening.
Of course there are also a bit cheaper and still delicious ones. We followed the tips of our taxi driver and found a huge surprise.
Old Town Dubrovnik Harbour Restaurant
The harbour restaurant is right next to the old harbour of the old town, incredibly delicious and the prices were really legitimate for this location and the quality of the food. I ate the best squid risotto of my life there. First I was scared off by the colour, but still curious and I didn't regret trying it. Also the rest was awesome!
The second tip was right next to our hotel. "Kona Voca" does not focus on big Chichi but on delicious cuisine with fresh fish.
Since I didn't always want to go to the same restaurants - unlike the rest - we tried something completely different because there was hummus. It was also good, because fish is almost always delicious in Croatia, but still not as good as the other restaurants. The Atlantico
I remember that during a walk along the coast near our hotel we came across another nice hotel restaurant. There I fell in love with olive oil so much that I could have only eaten oil and bread.
And last but not least some impressions of the old town. I really fell in love with the small town with the marble floor, just because the ice cream there is huge & delicious. Besides, this was my first real holiday after years. and I noticed how much the soul needs sun, beach & good food.
All in all, I can only advise students to take a day trip to the city, as the Croatian coast also has much cheaper beautiful places to offer. Nevertheless, the city is worth a trip. We spent a week there and had a few days at the beach. The great thing is that you can make many great trips from the island if you inform yourself in time. Since I was in my childhood in Croatia almost every year and have already experienced so much there, I advise you really well to inform, because one can get also fast times at boring trips. But if you have found the right place it is unforgettable, because Croatia is simply a wonderful country with great food, great people and a beautiful sea.
